Health Services

Pharmacy

We’re pleased to provide pharmacy services to all our patients. You can fill prescriptions at no cost from our pharmacy. If you have a prescription from a TRICARE network or non-network doctor, you may fill it here, as long as it’s available on the TRICARE Uniform Formulary.  We are able to provide up to a 90-day supply for most medications, so make sure to ask you provider to write your prescription for a 90-day supply.

The pharmacy lobby is open and available for patients to use, Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.  Patients may activate new or renewal prescriptions or pick-up completed prescriptions and refills when visiting the lobby. When returning to the Pharmacy lobby to pick-up completed prescriptions or refills that have already been called-in and are waiting on the shelf, please proceed to the Pharmacy’s pick-up window, at Window #7, for expedited service.

Q-Anywhere

Remote Pharmacy Check-In Using Q-Anywhere

Reduce your wait time at the pharmacy for new or renewal prescriptions. Munson offers remote pharmacy check-in using Q-Anywhere. With Remote Pharmacy Check-In, you can activate your prescription with a simple text message from your phone.

To use Remote Pharmacy Check-In with Q-Anywhere:

Using your cell phone, text “Get in line” to Munson at 833-851-1505 M-F from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Enter your DOD ID# to check in remotely and automatically activate all your new prescriptions.
The pharmacy will process all your NEW/RENEWAL prescriptions (NO REFILLS), and will send you a text when they are ready for pickup.

When picking up prescriptions, customers must have a military ID card for all beneficiaries 10 years and older (Age has been updated). A photocopy or a digital copy (front and back) of the ID card may be used.  For prescriptions that are ready on the Pharmacy’s shelf, please use the Pick-Up window, located at Window #7 in the lobby, for expedited service (no ticket from the kiosk required).

The Pharmacy will keep completed prescriptions on the shelf for 10 business days before returning them to stock.  According to federal law, the Pharmacy cannot dispense prescriptions that expire before they are picked up.

Our Military Pharmacy Services

The Munson pharmacy accepts all electronic prescriptions from providers outside of Fort Leavenworth.  This includes prescriptions for both controlled substances (CII-V medications) and non-controlled substances.  Electronic prescriptions are sent using a private, secure, and closed network.  They help prevent medication errors since the prescription information populates within the Pharmacy’s system, eliminating the need for Pharmacy staff to decipher and re-type handwritten prescriptions into our electronic medical record. Electronic prescriptions are immediately sent to the Pharmacy, and if a patient calls ahead it will be ready when they visit the Pharmacy, which helps reduce wait times associated with dropping a prescription off and then having to come back at a later time to pick it up. Click here for more information on electronic prescribing.

  • Providers should send these prescriptions electronically to “DOD FT LEAVENWORTH PHARMACY.”
  • The Pharmacy’s NCPDP / NPI numbers are: 1721174 / 1730593567.
  • Electronic prescriptions submitted for non-formulary medications will not be filled unless a patient has previously received approval to fill these medications.

 Activating New or Renewal Prescriptions
Prescription RENEWALS are prescriptions that a patient has previously been on, but a provider sends a new or updated version of the prescription to the Pharmacy. Patients may have run out of refills, or the prescription may have expired, which prompted the patient to request a renewal from the provider either via a phone message, at an appointment, or via secure messaging to the provider, such as through the MHS Genesis Patient Portal.
  1. Visit the Lobby.  The Pharmacy lobby is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.  Take a ticket from the kiosk and the Pharmacy staff will gladly assist you with all of your prescription needs once we call you to a window.
  2. Skip the Wait – Check in Using Q-Anywhere. Text “Get in line” to 1-833-851-1505 or scan the QR code shown below to begin using the remote pharmacy check-in system, Q-Anywhere!  You will be prompted to enter each patient’s DoD ID number when checking-in.  If you do not know the patient’s DoD ID#, you may visit the ID Card Office Online at https://idco.dmdc.osd.mil/idco/, click continue under “My Profile,” log-in, select the dependent you want to locate the DoD ID# for and scroll to find it.  Make sure to reply with “Done” once you have finished entering each patient’s DoD ID#. Once you submit your request, the Pharmacy will begin processing your prescription(s) and will contact you if we have any questions.  You will receive updates on the status of your prescription(s) as we process them.  The pharmacy will only process prescriptions submitted to the Pharmacy within the past 14 days. Additionally, Q-Anywhere is not meant to process refills, hardcopy (paper) prescriptions, or prescriptions that we have kept on file for you. If you have prescriptions outside of this timeframe or meeting one of the previous criteria, please stop into the Pharmacy Lobby or call us to activate your prescriptions.

Patients will receive a notification when their prescription(s) are processed and ready for pick-up. Do not visit the Pharmacy until you receive a message that your prescription is ready for pick-up. When returning the same day for pick-up, please proceed to the Pharmacy lobby, text “I am here” once you arrive, and wait for your number to be called. Please note, Q-Anywhere tickets do not carry over from one day to the next.  If picking up prescriptions activated using Q-Anywhere on a different day, patients may use the Pharmacy’s Pick-Up window, which is located at Window #7, for faster service.
Pharmacy now offers expedited prescription pick-up at Window #7 for all prescriptions that have been previously activated or called-in to the refill line and are ready on the shelf.   Patients may walk directly up to Window #7 to obtain their prescription(s) without pulling a ticket from the lobby kiosk.

Most refills for non-controlled medications may be refilled once 75% of the medication is gone.  Refills for controlled substances will not be filled sooner than 3 days prior to the due date (or when the prescription is supposed to run out).  After 10 business days, refills are returned back to stock.  If you are unable to pick your medication up within the designated timeframe, please contact the Pharmacy to make alternative arrangements.  According to federal law, the Pharmacy cannot dispense prescriptions that expire before they are picked up.

Over-the-Counter (OTC) Medication Program

A select list of over-the-counter medications are available to beneficiaries at Munson’s Outpatient Pharmacy.  These medications are intended for short-term use and are NOT intended to treat chronic conditions.  Patients should seek medical care for worsening symptoms or symptoms lasting longer than 72 hours.  Patients must meet the age requirements listed on the manufacturer’s packaging (and shown on Munson’s OTC Medication List) and all OTC medications must be entered under the appropriate patient’s electronic health record to screen for allergies and drug interactions.  Individuals may receive up to two (2) items per week.  Patients may request OTC medications by either visiting the lobby and pulling a ticket or calling us to request these items. Click here to access the most current version of the over the counter medications Munson's OTC List updated Feb. 2024

  • Phenylephrine has been removed from the OTC list due to recommendation for removal from the retail market.

 Pharmacy Formulary
A formulary is a list of prescription drugs, both generic and brand name, which identifies the medications that are available and may be filled for a patient as part of the TRICARE pharmacy benefit.  As part of Munson’s transition to MHS Genesis, we expanded our formulary to align with the Department of Defense’s (DoD) Uniform Formulary.  While we may not have every medication or strength of medication on our shelf, if it is on the DoD Uniform Formulary (and if all required paperwork for specialty medications has been submitted & approved), we can typically order this for our patients within 1-2 business days.

Patients may use the TRICARE Formulary Search Tool to look up costs, quantity limits, therapeutic alternatives, and download Prior Authorization (PA) or Medical Necessity (MN) forms for their provider to fill out.  All PA forms must be submitted by your provider (either electronically, via fax, e-mail, or mail) to Express Scripts for review.  If you have a non-formulary medication, please contact the Pharmacy for more details.  Please review our Understanding Formulary Designations Info Sheet to learn more about the formulary designations found within the TRICARE Formulary Search Tool.

Home Delivery Option

With TRICARE Pharmacy Home Delivery, picking up your prescriptions is as easy as picking up your mail since maintenance medications are delivered right to your home.  Get up to a 90-day supply of your long-term medicines.  Enjoy free standard shipping, however, copayments may apply.  Create an account with Express Scripts Home Delivery.  You can also download the mobile app at this link.  We recommend having a 30-day supply of medication on hand while your first order is processed.

Transfer Prescriptions

If you are new to the area or have a prescription that was filled at another pharmacy, you can request that the pharmacy transfer your prescription to Munson.  Please print and fill out the Prescription Transfer Form and bring it to the Pharmacy lobby or call us to request a prescription transfer.   We will need your prescription information (i.e., medication name, strength, Rx number, etc.), what pharmacy the medication was last filled at, and that pharmacy’s phone number.  Transfers may take three to five business days to complete, so please plan accordingly.

Note: For patients arriving from other MTFs if the prescription has refills remaining, Munson’s Pharmacy should be able to fill this prescription without contacting the other pharmacy.  You may try refilling this via the MHS GENESIS Patient Portal, the pharmacy call center (913-684-6250, option #2) or by coming into the lobby or calling us with your prescription information.

Medication Storage and Disposal

Proper medication storage helps prevent children and pets from accidentally getting into medications, which can lead to unintentional poisoning, overdose, permanent harm, and even death.  The Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends putting medications up and away and out of children’s reach or sight.  The CDC also recommends putting medications away every time they are used and not leaving them on the counter or at the bedside.  Visit the CDC's website for more information on proper medication storage

Proper medication disposal reduces accumulation in the home and the subsequent risk of unintentional poisoning, drug abuse, and diversion.  The preferred method for proper medication disposal is at a designated drug takeback location. Munson's medication disposal receptacle, located near window #1 in the lobby, is available for patients to use to discard the majority of their unused medications several exclusions apply, including syringes, needles, and liquids greater than 4 ounces. Patients may also use the Coffee Grounds or Kitty Litter Method.  Additionally, if a medication is on the FDA Flush List patients may dispose of it by flushing it down the toilet.

Sharps and Needle Disposal is a guide that provides information on properly disposing needles and syringes. However, patients are advised to follow local county/municipality guidelines on properly disposing needles and syringes.  Please visit the FDA's Safe Disposal of Medicines website for more information or contact the Pharmacy with questions.
