Pharmacy Services

Our service covers active-duty service members and TRICARE-enrolled retirees and dependents, Soldiers with temporary active-duty orders, and eligible military students at Fort Leavenworth.
  • An ID card or copy of an ID card is required for medication pick-up for all patients aged 10 years and older.
  • If you have Other Health Insurance (OHI) please ensure Munson has your information on file.
If you have a prescription from a TRICARE network or non-network doctor, you may fill it here, as long as it’s available on the TRICARE Formulary.  We take hardcopy and electronic prescriptions (preferred) – NO FAXES.
  • Providers should send these prescriptions electronically to “DOD FT LEAVENWORTH PHARMACY.”
  • The Pharmacy’s NCPDP / NPI numbers are: 1721174 / 1730593567.
  • Electronic prescriptions submitted for non-formulary medications will not be filled unless a patient has previously received approval to fill these medications.

Ask your provider for alternative options. Continue to submit refill requests and check the web page for updates. As of July 26, 2024, the new-start shortage is ongoing.

Activating New or Renewal Prescriptions
Prescription Renewals are prescriptions that a patient has previously been on, but a provider sends a new or updated version to the Pharmacy. This can happen if the patient has run out of refills or the prescription has expired. Patients can request renewals via phone, at an appointment, or through secure messaging like the MHS Genesis Patient Portal.

  1. Visit the Lobby:  Take a ticket from the kiosk and wait for the Pharmacy staff tocall you to a window to activate your prescription. Once your prescription is activated you may wait in the lobby for your prescription, or you may return later (up to 14 days) to pick up your prescription. If you choose to return later, proceed to Window #7 when you return.

  1. Skip the Wait  –  Check in Using Q-Anywhere.
  • Text “Get in line” to 1-833-851-1505.
  • You will need each patient’s DoD ID number when checking-in.
  • Once you submit your request, the Pharmacy will begin processing your prescription(s) and will contact you when the  prescription is ready for pick-up or if we have any questions.
  • The pharmacy will only process prescriptions submitted to the Pharmacy within the past 14 days. Q-Anywhere is not meant to process refills, hardcopy (paper) prescriptions, or prescriptions that we have kept on file for you.
  • When returning to the pharmacy, please proceed to Window #7 for pick up.

     3. Call:
  • Contact the Pharmacy at 913-684-6250 (Choose Option 2). Please listen to the prompts.   There is a 24-hour turn-around time for prescriptions activated via the Call Center.  For prescriptions needed sooner, please visit the lobby or use Q-Anywhere.

Transfer Prescriptions

If you are new to the area or have a prescription that was filled at another pharmacy, you can request that the pharmacy transfer your prescription to Munson.
  • You may try refilling this via the MHS GENESIS Patient Portal, the pharmacy call center (913-684-6250, option #2)
  • Please print and fill out the Prescription Transfer Form and bring it to the Pharmacy lobby or call us to request a prescription transfer.   We will need your prescription information (i.e., medication name, strength, Rx number, etc.), what pharmacy the medication was last filled at, and that pharmacy’s phone number.
Transfers may take three to five business days to complete, so please plan accordingly.

Pharmacy Formulary
Munson’s formulary has been expanded to align with the TRICARE Uniform Formulary. The TRICARE Uniform Formulary (UF) is a list of brand name and generic drugs and supplies that TRICARE covers. If a medication is on the Formulary and all required paperwork for specialty medications is submitted and approved, it can typically be ordered within 1-2 business days.
Using the TRICARE Formulary Search Tool:
  • Look up costs, quantity limits, and therapeutic alternatives.
  • Download Prior Authorization (PA) or Medical Necessity (MN) forms for your provider to fill out. Providers must submit PA forms to Express Scripts for review.
  • You can find more questions and answers at Health.mil (TRICARE formulary)

Home Delivery Option

With TRICARE Pharmacy Home Delivery, picking up your prescriptions is as easy as picking up your mail since maintenance medications are delivered right to your home.  Get up to a 90-day supply of your long-term medicines.  Enjoy free standard shipping, however, copayments may apply.  Create an account with Express Scripts Home Delivery.  You can also download the mobile app at this link.  We recommend having a 30-day supply of medication on hand while your first order is processed.

Medication Storage and Disposal

Proper medication storage helps prevent children and pets from accidentally getting into medications, which can lead to unintentional poisoning, overdose, permanent harm, and even death.  The Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends putting medications up and away and out of children’s reach or sight.  The CDC also recommends putting medications away every time they are used and not leaving them on the counter or at the bedside.  Visit the CDC's website for more information on proper medication storage

Proper medication disposal reduces accumulation in the home and the subsequent risk of unintentional poisoning, drug abuse, and diversion.  The preferred method for proper medication disposal is at a designated drug takeback location. Munson's medication disposal receptacle, located near window #1 in the lobby, is available for patients to use to discard the majority of their unused medications several exclusions apply, including syringes, needles, and liquids greater than 4 ounces. Patients may also use the Coffee Grounds or Kitty Litter Method.  Additionally, if a medication is on the FDA Flush List patients may dispose of it by flushing it down the toilet.

Sharps and Needle Disposal is a guide that provides information on properly disposing needles and syringes. However, patients are advised to follow local county/municipality guidelines on properly disposing needles and syringes.  Please visit the FDA's Safe Disposal of Medicines website for more information or contact the Pharmacy with questions.
